Admission to the American Hebrew Academy is based on academic achievement and motivation, a high level of interest in Judaic studies and a
commitment to Jewish life. Additionally, students who have exhibited strong character, intellectual curiosity,
extra-curricular involvement, artistic and athletic ability and strong leadership skills are excellent candidates
for admission. Our evaluation committee consists of 3 Faculty members, the Academy’s Principal, and selected Admission Department representatives.
Approximately 70% of all applicants are accepted.
Admissions requirements include:
- Interview and Tour - A visit to our campus is the best way to learn more about the American Hebrew Academy. A personal interview with each
applicant and their parents or guardians is required. International students, while strongly encouraged to visit campus may schedule a Skype interview.
To schedule an interview and/or tour, please call 336-217-7070.
- Online Application - Our application process is available online (the applicant must complete the
Applicant Questionnaire, Essays and Agreement while the Parent or Guardian must complete the Parent Questionnaire and Agreements). You'll be
prompted to pay the application fee at that time
- Photo - Please upload a recent, passport-style
photo of the applicant.
- Application Fees - Domestic Applicants: $75; International Applicants: $150.
The application fee may be paid online through the application
process by credit card or by mailed check. Families seeking finiancial aid will be required to pay an application processing fee of $39.00.
- Recommendation Forms - The recommendation forms for an applicant’s current teachers and Jewish community professional of choice
are available through schoolrecs.com.
- Student Records - Complete your portion of the Request for Release of Student Records form electronically and/or print, sign and
submit with a pre-addressed stamped envelope to the applicant’s current school.
- The Admission Test - We require the results of a standardized test taken during the school year prior to entrance.
The SSAT, ERB, PSAT, SAT, Stanford, NY JEP-BJE Entrance Exam, or for non-native English speakers, the TOEFL test is acceptable. The information gathered
from these scores, in addition to current grades and recommendations, gives us a more complete .value = "";
picture of a student’s strengths and weaknesses. This allows us to more accurately determine the classes that
would appropriately challenge a student and lead to success at the Academy. Please consult with our Director of Admissions prior to registering for a test.
- SSAT - You may arrange to take the SSAT in your local community
or during your campus visit
(register online to take the test at the SSAT site). Please
be sure to include the Academy’s school recipient code 1235 and
the access code "factor probably" and bring
the registration with you to the test.
- ISEE(ERB) (http://www.erbtest.org)
- This test is often administered at Jewish Day Schools. Please check with your school to see if it
has been administered and request score report to be sent to the Academy.
- PSAT (www.collegeboard.com)
- TOEFL (www.toefl.org - foreign students only) -- For International applicants, the
TOEFL is required (register online to take the test).
Our TOEFL score recipient code is 8634.
